Flexibility and exit options
Cancellation flexibility is a real concern, especially if you're renting, unsure about moving, or just cautious about trying a new provider. Here's what you need to know.
If you signed up for a month-to-month plan, you can cancel with typically 30 days notice and no early termination fee. This is the most flexible option and the one most people prefer when signing up from a door-to-door rep for the first time.
If you signed a 12 or 24-month agreement, canceling early will trigger an early termination fee (ETF). ETFs vary by carrier: some charge a flat fee ($75–$300); others prorate it based on remaining months. Read this section of your service agreement carefully.
Military deployment, moving to an unserviceable address, documented service quality failures, and in some states death of the account holder are common ETF waiver situations. Always call and ask — providers often waive fees with proper documentation.
If the provider supplied equipment (router, ONT gateway), you must return it within 30 days of cancellation or you'll be charged for the device — typically $100–$250. Keep your return shipping confirmation as proof.
Don't just stop paying — this will result in service interruption plus a collections entry on your credit. Call the provider's cancellation line, confirm your end date, get a cancellation confirmation number, return equipment, and verify on your final bill that the account is fully closed.
Enter your address and a local specialist will confirm availability and walk you through your options — no obligation.
